The task of scientists

The supreme task of a scientist is to draw a logically self-consistent and simple picture about the world as he sees it. Every one has a picture about the world. But these pictures are not satisfactory in this or that aspect. A scientist has to be very sensitive to the loopholes of existing pictures. He must be inquiring all the time. He must insist that, nothing can be taken for granted. He must not stop questioning. He has to fully utilize his imagination and his sympathetic understanding of his experience (including both experimental data and physical laws, in addition to other things), so as to found a good picture about the object he is investigating. He should never accept or abandon anything without thinking. Reasoning and freedom are foremost to him.
